Knotted Pearl Necklace

I made this knotted pearl necklace using my Katiedids™ Creative Components; Crystallized - Swarovski Elements crystals and pearls; black silk cord; and a knotting tool.

Knotting is a traditional technique that's seeing a resurgence in popularity right now. A lot of people learn how to knot so they can repair knotted pearl necklaces, then become addicted to the technique!

Pearl knotting is easy once you get the hang of it, but I admit that it took me a long time to learn how to do it. When I was learning how to use a knotting tool, I would practice, then put the tool away and forget about it, then have to learn it again. Practice is really the key because it's easier if you follow the same steps in the same order every time.

Here are a couple of my video segments about making knotted pearl necklaces from Beads, Baubles & Jewels, along with instructions:

Beautiful necklace Katie! I taught myself knotting when a customer came to be a few years back with a design she wanted done. I messed up the first time and had to re-do it but it turned out great. At the time, the pictures weren't so good. But here's my design:

But I definately loved the technique and actually have some pearls waiting to be knotted.

What an elegant necklace. I won some round Katiedids from Andrew Thornton's giveaway and can't wait to get them. I will post when completed.

The necklace is beautiful! It has colors that make me think of a stormy night.

I've never been good at knotting. Just ask my mothe--never could keep my shoes tied. I'd love to try the technique in my jewelry though.
