Today, for your viewing pleasure, may I present: Beaded Fruit.

At the CHA Show last January, I was stopped dead in my tracks by this display of retro fabulous beaded produce. I didn't know that you could still buy kits to make this! Turns out, they've been available for 30+ years and they're still kickin'.
For those of you who aren't familiar with this type of thing, beaded fruit starts with a blank polystyrene form. You place sequins and beads onto pins and press them into the fruit to cover the surface. The kit comes with complete instructions.
Curious how long it would take to make, say, a pear? Strictly in the name of research, I sat down to find out. One and a half hours later (roughly the time it takes to bead while watching a movie), I was rewarded with the fruit of my labor:

That is a perfect afternoon craft! The pear is so pretty....hmmmmmm...also a great Christmas tree ornament......I knew I needed those sequins in my stash!
Oh, I remember these! My Mom used to make them as Christmas ornaments. They were always my favorite - so shiny.
I think I need a bowl of these on my dining room table. How fun. What if you striped them or put polka dots on them? You know that thought always has to run through my mind.

Oh how pretty! We did them as ornaments too. I haven't thought about these in forever. So pretty! Thanks for sharing, I'll be linking.
Wow! Beautiful!!!
Where did you find the fruit? I've been looking all over for them!
Thanks, MB
It used to be available from Herschnerr's, a mail-order company. Now, I can't seem to find it on the web. You might try Ebay? The manufacturer's name is Sulyn.
Lecker!
