Dyeing Freshwater Pearls

Did you know that you can dye your own freshwater pearls? It had honestly never occurred to me before this morning. I opened the Fire Mountain Gems jewelry designer's newsletter and there was a link to instructions on how to dye pearls using fabric dye.

What great information! This could open up a whole realm of possibilities, especially when it comes to creating designs that are uniquely yours.

Bright pinks and greens would put a fun, springtime twist on the classic look of knotted pearls this season. For tips, check out my pearl knotting tutorial from Beads, Baubles & Jewels.

I've heard of brides who dye their pearls to match their dresses (kind of like when Susan Sarandon dyed her hair to match her Oscar dress)....

I have never heard of either one (the wedding pearls or the hair - ha!) but I love them both. Thanks for sharing that!
