Venetian Glass = Yummy!

This week, I realized that I've been posting a lot of non-jewelry ideas. I guess I've been decorating a lot and it's been fun to share that with you. But we all love jewelry, so without further ado...

Here's a necklace I made using a yummy focal bead from Bella Venetian Beads. Their booth was across the aisle from Beadalon at the Bead Fest Philly show, where I demonstrated jewelry making techniques last August.

Did you know that beads from Venice are made using a centuries-old process? Each bead is hand-formed on a copper wire, and then nitric acid is used to dissolve the wire out of the bead. Amazing!

I love the colors and mosaic style of this twisted bead. I originally used some plain turquoise glass beads as a dangle, but then I saw this bead and it was a perfect complement to the design. The connected circles are made of colorful, twisted wire in the same color scheme as the bead. What are you making?

Hi Katie,

That is a gorgeous necklace but then all that I have seen of yours is just that. I keep up with your blog and just love reading all your entries.

I am about to start working on a lariat with tassels for a swap on one of my beading groups "Beading Fanatics". This will be my first lariat and I am excited to see how it will turn out.

Take care,
Wanda H.

I was fortunate enough to get to visit Venice and Murano this past spring. I came home with quite the stash...couldn't help myself! :-)

I'm planning to go bead shopping in Venice next spring! And, I'm working on something a bit more complex than that. LOL. :D
