Bead Stash

Here are some of my goodies, as promised...with links! More to come. For now, clockwise from top left:

Tagua slices and other natural pendants from Acai Beads. These are made from nuts that fall to the ground and they're known as "vegetable ivory." I had a really interesting chat with the owners about their positive support of the Amazonian artists who make these components.

Intricate seed beaded beads & bracelet and raku flower disks from The Bead Goes On. Funny story about these flowers. I saw them, bought them, and then went upstairs to Marlene Blessing's book signing for Create Jewelry: Stones. Wouldn't you know it, these are featured in one of the projects in the book?!

Mulitcolor Venetian glass beads from Bella Venetian. I bought a selection of beautiful glass beads from this company, but these are my favorite. Bella Venetian also sponsors a European Bead Cruise. Tempting!

Raku pendant from Odd Designs Pottery & Raku Jewelry by Olivia D. Dowdy. This talented artist also does metalwork but her raku donuts caught my eye. She also exhibits at the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee.

Mohawk jasper bead from Tucson Bead. This company specializes in beads made from stones that are mined in the US. The variety is subtly colorful, absolutely gorgeous and distinctly American.

Hi Katie,

If you like Tagua and beading, I invite you to take a look at our web site at http://www.pueblito.ca

There you will find jewelry created by Colombian artisans from Tagua, Seeds and other eco-friendly materials.

Thanks!

I was really intrigued by the Tagua beads and how they revered to them as "vegetable ivory." What a cool concept! Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks, both of you, for commenting. Isn't it cool that we can make jewelry that is both eco-friendly and beautiful?

I love tagua - it has such a wonderful, warm feeling. Have you seen the tagua netsuke that's available? So beautiful.
