Beads, Baubles & Jewels

Today, I'm coming to you live from the green room at the Beads, Baubles & Jewels filming. We're taping episodes for the 800 series, which will be available on PBS this spring.

One of the best parts of being involved with the show is meeting all of the talented guests and seeing the creative projects they present. (oops, that's two best parts!) Even though everyone is busy getting ready to go on camera, there's usually some time to chat and get to know each other. Here' s an overview of the guests who are here today:

Interweave Press is a new sponsor for the show, so Marlene Blessing from Beadwork magazine and Leslie Rogalski from Step by Step Beads magazine are here to present 13 projects from the pages of the magazines. I love the designs they chose! One of my favorites from Marlene is a super easy, chunky necklace using polymer clay beads and a pendant from Heather & Pam Wynn. Leslie shared an awesome stitched project that's built on a rubber O ring.

Iliana McGrath from Blue Moon Beads presented some really cool mixed media designs using their new line called Lost & Found. It's great - found objects that you don't actually have to find! You'll be able to buy them in stores in April or May. (The self portrait above shows a lovely Iliana and a crazed looking Katie...)

And Jackie Truty showed us how to turn Art Clay Silver into unique, customized pendants. She has a really interesting technique of using UV Epoxy with abalone pieces to create a beautiful mosaic-like effect. She also does some impressive Kumihimo braiding!

I'm getting my set-ups together today and might tape a few episodes this afternoon if we can squeeze them in. Otherwise, I'll be rockin' my Beadalon Beading Lessons marathon all day long tomorrow. Woo-hoo!
