Workshops & Chocolate

It's only 10am and I've already had two cups of coffee and a piece of chocolate. Do you think that's a bad sign? I'm trying to keep a lot of balls in the air today.

The Bead & Button Show is only a month a way, which means there's lots to do around here. I'm assembling kits for my workshops, contacting students, ordering more supplies, making handout sheets, confirming scheduling, etc.

I'm teaching a couple of projects that look complicated but are actually easy to make once you get the hang of it. (My favorite kind of beading!) We'll be making a multiple strand knotted pearl necklace and a crystal scallop bracelet. Both classes include a great (free) goodie bag from Beadalon, Pure Allure & Swarovski.
There are still some seats available for my B&B classes, so join us if you can. It's going to be fun!

I've learned a lot about teaching workshops by taking classes from other teachers at various conventions. I like to teach shorter classes because I've taken some workshops that seemed stretched out when they could have been condensed. I also like to teach a project that everyone can finish in class. As a student, if I bring another UFO home with me, I know it will take me forever to finish and it will just make me feel guilty. I also try to include snacks in my kits because it's a fun little way of saying "thank you for taking my class" and "don't bead hungry!"

So, I think it's time for another cup of coffee. And maybe some chocolate, too. I still have project proposals to make and a stack of workshop applications to fill out. Yesterday, I imagined a leather cord necklace with knots and charms so now that's percolating in my head. Time to get to work!

Hi Katie,

I was interested to learn that you were teaching a pearl necklace class. Do you think pearls are making a comeback? Or is it just a spring thing? It seems pearls are creeping into all my designs lately!

Hi Michelle. Thanks for your note! I've been using pearls a lot, too. They're such a classic. And they go really well with all of the girly fashions that are hot right now.
